Clubs: join or rejoin the Middlesex League here

5 April 2026

THE FORM BELOW IS A DRAFT SUBJECT TO CHECKING AND CONSULTATION - PLEASE DO NOT COMPLETE IT WHILE THIS MESSAGE APPEARS but revisit this page in a couple of weeks

Clubs should please use this form to apply to join or renew membership of Middlesex County Chess Association ("MCCA" or "the Association") and the Middlesex League ("the League") for the next membership period beginning on 1 September 2026.

Middlesex comprises the Cities of London and Westminster, the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, and the London Boroughs of Barnet, Brent, Camden, Ealing, Enfield, Hackney, Hammersmith and Fulham, Haringey, Harrow, Hillingdon, Hounslow, Islington, Richmond on Thames and Tower Hamlets.

If your (main) venue is outside Middlesex, the League Secretary will decide - in consultation with senior colleagues - whether or not your application should proceed.

Notice of the Annual Council Meeting, any Special Council Meeting and Fixtures Meeting will normally be sent to the club's MCCA Delegate and its Secretary. The MCCA Delegate is requested to attend these meetings or to send a substitute.

The club's MCCA Delegate may be any officer (or member) of the club having authority to represent the club at the relevant meetings.

Please note that a fine may be levied on clubs not represented at the Fixtures Meeting: League Rules, rule 10(a).

Please read our Constitution, Middlesex League Rules and Privacy Policy before replying to the next two questions

1. Membership normally begins on 1 September and ends on 31 August in the following year.

2. The League's playing season typically starts in mid-September and the last matches are played during the following June.

3. The main competitions currently are Divisions 1, 2 and 3. Their matches are played over six boards, and the entry fee is £60*per team.

4. The formula competitions potentially comprise Divisions F1 (Open), F2 (Under 2050), F3 (Under 1850), F4 (Under 1650) and F5 (Under 1450). Their matches are played over four boards, and the entry fee is £30* per team.

5. A Formula Division may not be feasible with fewer than three teams, and four or more teams are ideal. We advise clubs wishing to enter one or more teams in any Formula Division to liaise with other clubs well in advance of the playing season to ensure there will be enough teams to generate competition.

6. Payment in full must be made by 1 September* in the season that normally begins in that month.

7. The entry fees and date marked * in paragraphs 3, 4 and 5 are subject to any decisions taken by the Association's Annual Council Meeting on 6 June 2026.

8. The League Secretary will decide which teams are allocated to which divisions, after taking into consideration the clubs' preferences and the requirements of the Middlesex League Rules.

9. You may enter "None" where applicable in the compulsory questions below and elsewhere.

Please arrange for the total league entry fee to be transferred as soon as possible to:

Bank: Bank of Scotland

Payee: Middlesex County Chess Association

Sort Code: 12-11-03

Description guidance

If the club is paying, "LEAGUE ENTRY" on its own will do as our bank statement will show the payer's name

1. The Webmaster will acknowledge the completed form and forward it to the Secretary, Treasurer and League Secretary.

2. The Treasurer will ascertain whether or not (a) the correct league entry fee has been paid and (b) any outstanding sums are owed by the club to MCCA, and will advise you and the League Secretary if necessary.

3. The Treasurer will require your club to pay any outstanding sums owed by the club to MCCA before its application can be processed further.

4. A new club joining the Middlesex League, or rejoining after a break of one or more seasons, needs to be approved by the Association's Annual Council Meeting (ACM). If the ACM has been held, the League Secretary will decide after consulting Executive Committee members.

5. In the unlikely event that the ACM (or League Secretary) doesn't approve your club's application, MCCA will refund any fees paid.

6. The League Secretary will decide on the allocation of teams to divisions in line with the club's preferences where possible but subject always to the Middlesex League Rules, and will communicate his decisions to clubs in due course and normally before the Fixtures Meeting.

7. Your club's membership if approved will commence on 1 September next and will end on the following 31 August, inclusive of both dates.
